NERO Violin Fingerboard

Nero Violin and Viola Fingerboards are made with the violin maker or violin shop in mind for easy preparation and fitting. They are shaped 1 mm wider that the dimensions described by Hans Weisshaar in his book on violin restoration. They can be made so close to dimension because the Nero Material is so regular and will not warp or distort.

The surfaces need light polishing, and there is no “swoop” on these fingerboards, which is easily induced with planing and scraping if desired. The recommended gluing method is scoring the back side of the fingerboard with a file or rough sandpaper, and then using high clarity hide glue with at least 190 gram strength.

The Nero material is made in the USA from eucalyptus paper and thermosetting resins. It is pure black and mimics the finest Madagascar ebony. It is hypoallergenic and not susceptible to humidity or temperature change. It will never warp and wears about 3x better than ebony. The surface is impermeable to sweat and body fluids and therefore very easy to clean.

Please notice that Nero fingerboards are supplied with a top surface that requires dressing for final scoop along the length.
